This is the third consecutive year purchasing coffee from Ramon, and it’s been a pleasure to grow in both quality and volume with he and his wife Daysi Munoz. We met Ramon on our initial trip to Santa Barbara and laughed non-stop the entire visit with him. He’s definitely a character and never ceases to turn every question we pose into a joke of some sort. He and his neighboring producers are some of our favorite farmers to spend time with on our travels.

Ramon’s farm sits at the highest point it is possible to plant coffee before running into national forest land. This is very important, as it leads to longer fruit maturation and a slightly cooler climate for he and Daysi’s Catuai trees. The farm has a cherry processing and washing facility that’s been recently installed near the trees to cut down on the time it takes to haul each day’s pickings down to their house below. Ramon’s coffee is always the last off the mountain, and it’s definitely worth the wait.

We work with Beneficio San Vicente and Benjamin Paz to source Ramon’s coffee, and have developed a wonderful working relationship with a handful of producers in Santa Barbara through their work in the community there. We’ve been trying to implement a model where we’re able to buy farmers’ entire production and allocate some for filter offering and others into our blend. This allows us to make sure Ramon and Daysi are receiving a fair price and to better understand what it takes for them to sustain the quality of coffee and life that they deserve.
