This harvest marks 10 years of Heart working with Aurelio Villatoro and his Villaure estate. Everyone should be very familiar with Amate, which translates as “love you” in english. This lot was separated from the rest of the estate for heart exclusively, and comes from the highest area where coffee is grown. This paired with impeccable processing practices has had us coming back year after year for more of Aurelio’s delicious coffee.
Villaure estate was founded in the 1950’s by Aurelio’s grandfather. The farm grows predominantly Bourbon and Caturra coffee plants, as well as a few experimental plots for Pacamara and Maragoype. Once the coffee is harvested it’s fermented under water for 24 hours, then fully washed in fresh running water. Aurelio’s easy access to clean mountain water helps him create such a clean flavor profile. After washing the coffee it is then dried on a cement patio for 10 days. Villaure is divided amongst Aurelio and his siblings in different microlots, so they’re able to market each individual farmer as well as an Estate blend.
We’re so pleased to be able to celebrate our 10th year in business with a 10-year-old relationship coffee. Aurelio embodies the type of beneficial long term partnership we’re striving to cultivate with our buying program. We look forward to continuing our work with Villaure for many years to come!
