Brazil Diogo Dias
fudge, toffee, marmalade
Varieties: Yellow Bourbon
Process: Pulped Natural
For a second year in a row we’re happy to bring in the “Pedra do Urubu” microlot from Fazenda Recreio. This pulped natural lot from Diogo Dias is earmarked every year for Heart after our visit to the south of Minas. We always look forward to tasting the coffees from Recreio and the consistency and sweetness between them makes this lot easy to love.
Diogo’s farm is located in Sao Sabastao de Grama, which is a giant valley or “vale” that goes up from the fazenda to 1400 meters above sea level. Varieties on the farm include Maragoype, Bourbon, Icatu, Arara, Mondo Nuovo, and Catuai. The coffee heart selected is a Yellow Bourbon, grown at the highest part of the farm. Diogo is a licensed agronomist, Q-grader and processor certified, so it’s safe to say that he knows his stuff!
This coffee has been a favorite at the roastery for it’s creamy texture, pronounced sweetness and subtle acidity. We can see this coffee being a crowd pleaser on drip or playing extremely well with milk on Espresso. We love drinking this coffee all day, and know you will too!
About the Variety: Bourbon is one of the most culturally and genetically important C. Arabica varieties in the world, known for excellent cup qualities at high altitudes. Optimal planting for Bourbon is 3000-4000 plants per hectare, and Bourbon it is considered a “medium yielding” variety.
